Child Protection Policy
The Bespoke Languages policy for the protection and safeguard of children on our premises.
1. Context and Aims of Bespoke Languages
Bespoke Languages is a Modern Languages teaching school. Its mission is to provide a professional and educative tuition service in foreign languages to the public, regardless of age or language speaking ability. The locality comprises of tuition space and administrative offices.2. Policy Remit
2.1 The purpose of this policy is to set out Bespoke Languages' position on the protection and safeguard of children whilst on our premises. For the purpose of this policy, anyone under 18 years of age will be considered a child.2.2 Children on the Bespoke Languages premises are transported to and from the location by family and friends. Whilst the primary responsibility for the welfare of children rests with the supervising adult, Bespoke Languages wishes to ensure that all children are safe from harm while visiting our premises.
2.3 In the common event of parents leaving children on the Bespoke Languages premises for tuition, primary responsibility for the welfare of children rests with Bespoke Languages. In this event, Bespoke Languages ensure that all children are safe from harm while visiting our premises.
2.4 This policy applies to all employees and volunteers of Bespoke Languages.
3. Policy Objectives
3.2 Recruitment
3.2.1 All Bespoke Lanuguages employees and volunteers will be carefully selected, trained and monitored to ensure that children with whom they may come into contact are protected.3.2.2 Only Bespoke Languages staff or volunteers with the opportunity for unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults would need to undergo checks with the Criminal Records Bureau.
4. Recruitment and training of staff and volunteers
4.1 Bespoke Languages recognises that anyone may have the potential to abuse children and young people in some way. All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that unsuitable people are prevented from working with children and young people.4.2 Interview and Induction
All employees (and volunteers) are required to apply formally and to undergo an interview carried out to acceptable protocol and recommendations. All employees and volunteers receive formal or informal induction, during which:A check is made that the application form has been completed in full (including sections on criminal records and self-disclosures).
Qualifications are substantiated.
The job requirements and responsibilities are clarified.
The Bespoke Languages Code of Ethics and Conduct is explained and agreed.
The Bespoke Languages child protection procedures are explained and training needs are identified.
4.3 Training
In addition to pre-selection checks, the safeguarding process includes training after recruitment to help staff and volunteers to:Analyse their own practice against established good practice, and to ensure their practice is likely to protect them from false allegations.
Recognise their responsibilities and report any concerns about suspected poor practice or possible abuse.
Respond to concerns expressed by a child or other vulnerable person.
Work safely effectively with children and other vulnerable persons.
4.4 Enhanced Disclosure
Pre-selection checks for substantial contact include the following:All volunteers/staff complete an application form. The application form elicits information about an applicant's past and a self-disclosure about any criminal record.
Consent is obtained from an applicant for discovery of information from the Criminal Records Bureau.
Two confidential references, including one regarding previous work with children and/or other vulnerable persons. These references are taken up and confirmed through telephone contact.
Evidence of identity (passport or driving licence with photo), is checked.
5. Policy Review Basis
This policy will be reviewed on a three-yearly basis.
